Galaxian is a 1979 fixed shooter arcade game developed and published by Namco and was Namco’s answer to Space Invaders

The player assumes control of the Galaxip starfighter in its mission to protect Earth from waves of aliens. Gameplay involves destroying each formation of aliens, who dive down towards the player in an attempt to hit them.

Galaxian is one of the first video games to feature RGB colour graphics, and the first ever to use a tile-based hardware system, which was capable of animated multi-colour sprites as well as scrolling, though the latter was limited to the starfield background while the game itself remained a fixed shooter.

Galaxian was Namco's first major arcade video game hit. It was the second highest-grossing arcade game of 1979 and 1980 in Japan, and the second highest-grossing arcade game of 1980 in the United States, where it became one of the best-selling arcade games of all time with 50,000 arcade units sold by 1982.

The game was celebrated for its gameplay and usage of true colour graphics.

This game is an ORIGINAL, and so will have imperfections as it has been used in an arcade all its life. We’ve replaced the monitor with a modern LCD version to give years of trouble free service.

This machine was originally used in commercial environments such as arcades, public houses, and amusements.

When you place your order with us, we will take the machine out of storage and bring it into our workshop, where technicians will fully clean and test all the components to ensure they are in working order as well as making any repairs that may be necessary.

Because of the age of these machines and that fact that they were originally used in commercial environments, it is possible that there may be signs of cosmetic wear and tear. However, we feel that these slight imperfections only add to the patina of this classic machine and helps to tell a story of its past life.
